The Town of Evans Public Safety Dispatch Center is one of the 15 primary Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) in Erie County, with eight Full Time Public Safety Dispatchers (PSDs) with additional Part Time PSDs. Together these PSDs operate a full service center 24×7, 365 days a year. Evans Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for Police, Fire and EMS dispatching in the Towns of Evans and Brant, including the Villages of Angola and Farnham. Evans PSD’s also dispatch Fire and EMS for Collins, North Collins, Village of North Collins and the Seneca Nation of Indians -Cattaraugus Territory. At 185 square miles, the Evans Dispatch Center is the second largest center in terms of service provided.

When PSDs are not answering the (INSERT TOTAL CALLS PER YEAR), (INSERT 911) calls, they handle the departments walk-up window and assist citizens in need. Other duties performed by Evans PSDs include, reviewing police reports, updating arrest warrants, stolen property, stolen motor vehicles, monitoring security cameras including Lake Shore Central School District properties, and other police and fire related duties.

In 2010, the Evans Police Department partnered with the fire departments of Evans Fire Control to secure a grant, part of which was used to upgrade the Emergency Dispatch Center. With the Lake Erie Beach Fire Company as the lead agency, a $500,000 grant was applied for and part of which was used to upgrade the 911 Emergency Dispatch Center. This upgrade brought state of the art equipment into the Dispatch Center, including the introduction of Next Generation 911. With this update, NG-911 allowed PSDs to pinpoint 911 calls in real time with a state of the art mapping system. This ultimately reduced the time it took for first responders to arrive on the scene of an emergency.

Effective January 1, 2015, the Town of Evans became the primary dispatch center for fire and emergency medical service for the Towns of Collins, North Collins, Village of North Collins and the Seneca Nation of Indians, also known as the Helmuth Chiefs Council. Combined, Evans Public Safety Dispatchers are dispatching 13 fire departments, 4 of which also providing EMS care and 2 EMS Agencies, as well as two police departments. At 185 square miles, the Evans Dispatch Center is the second largest center in Erie County in terms of service coverage area.

In 2021, the Dispatcher Center was awarded Funds through the CAREs Act Grant and with assistance from the Town Board, was able to complete another renovation adding a fully functional third dispatch workstation. This upgrade also provided health improvements for our PSDs with the addition of stand up, automatic desks, with personal heating and cooling features. The monitoring camera feeds improved with new large size monitors and recording systems.

The Dispatch Center also serves as the point of contact after hours for Town and Village agencies including, but not limited to, Dog Control, Highway, Parks and Building Inspectors.
